(17,339 posts)Worlds apart from current teen idol and fellow Canadian Justin Bieber, Lightfoot appreciates Bieber's efforts. "Some time back I listened to his first album and it was good. The production and vocals were better than I had imagined. And I believe he was helped out by the internet. So that's how things have changed over the years. The bottom line is you still have to have a measure of talent or something an audience wants to hear. Maybe that's why I've managed to hang around as long as I have."

Drives me insane. Though I think she is a very "nice" person and probably very talented, it just drives me batty to hear her speak. Holly Hunter has a similar accent and speech pattern.
TalenaGor
(1,104 posts)That accent is so thick it makes me feel like it's fake.....and how she curls her lips...idk just...gah make it stop! Lol
Dave Starsky
(5,914 posts)She has a very genuine eastern Oklahoma accent, which is where she's from. She just hasn't tried to get rid of it, like so many actors do. Tony Randall was also from Oklahoma, believe it or not.
TalenaGor
(1,104 posts)I'm just saying that it comes across like that to me, I don't know it's hard to explain..... I definitely don't think she's successfully faked her accent for all these years lol

(6,252 posts)nothing political. Just don't find him funny.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)But I can never figure out if he is doing some sort of meta-comedy where it's almost funny how unfunny he is - which makes it kind of funny.
I guess that's what made his W impersonation so spot-on, since they both seem to be missing on one cylinder. But to the extent that his W impersonation was so accurate, and less of a lampoon, then I'd find myself thinking, "you know, if I wanted to watch W, I could just roll video of W". Like, okay, but what's so funny about watching W, really?
I'm sure he's a nice guy, and I think he made me laugh a couple of times. But he's in my "Adam Sandler" category of more likely to make me feel almost embarrassed for him.
Ben Stiller is another one that has done some really GREAT stuff, but most of it makes me cringe. Loved him in the Night At The Museum series and Meet the Parents, but it seems that working with other good talent brings out his best.
I'm sure Will Ferrell is a great guy. I just think he took up the wrong line of work. If I had to chill out for a day with, say, Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller, I'd hang out with Ferrell. Of course, people said that about W too, so...

(6,252 posts)I don't get it. Maybe it's me.

(7,300 posts)Just joshin'! I happen to enjoy most of Ferrell's stuff especially his Spartan act on SNL with Sherri O'Terry (probably just butchered the spelling of both their names) but really, I do agree with you. Comedy is very subjective.

(10,952 posts)I cant separate the actor from Scientology. He was in some great movies earlier in his career and now he just does action/explosion films, which leave me cold.
But I like John Travolta, who is also big in the cult. Its the slimy things Cruise did in his personal life (turned his kids against their mother, has nothing to do with his youngest daughter because shes a Supressive Person at age 11) because of the cult that I cant stomach.

(3,818 posts)Have you seen The Man From Elysian Fields? AG was great in that (not a gangster). Mick Jagger is in it too and almost steals the show. There is one scene MJ is in where he blew me away as an actor. Was so surprised at his acting abilities.

(22,243 posts)It is a sweet little gem of a film with Holland Taylor as their mother. Try it. You will like it.
Also "The Lost City" which is a powerful film about the Cuban revolution "Just The Ticket"
TuxedoKat
(3,818 posts)I will definitely check these two out and all the other ones mentioned in this part of the thread -- appreciate the tip!!! Please see the one I mentioned if you haven't already too. AG is great but it is worth it just to see Mick Jagger and Angelica Huston too and her dad John Huston is in the film as well.

(3,665 posts)Hate his "aren't I cute and funny shtick" Someone was on there years ago telling a story, had me rolling on the floor. Conan kept interrupting her, they went to commercial when she got to the punchline and boom she was gone when they came back. He had to make it all about him. She never got to finish the story.
