OP
It's only AF One of Two if an official (or Trump or Pence) is on board.

(102,105 posts)1. I'd be worried about fighter jets, but AF1 or 2?

If not, it's a Special Air Mission.
Special Air Mission
The United States Air Force Special Air Mission provides air transportation for the President of the United States (POTUS), Vice President of the United States (VPOTUS), First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS), Presidential Cabinet, U.S. Congressional delegations (CODELs), and other high-ranking American and foreign dignitaries.
The Special Air Mission is under the cognizance of the Air Mobility Command (AMC) and executed by the 89th Airlift Wing (89 AW) based at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.

I live near Joint Base Andrews. I see the plane used as Air Force One all the time. Often it's out on a test flight.
I see, to my surprise, that Andrews Air Force Base is still a thing:
Andrews Air Force Base
Andrews Air Force Base is the airfield portion of Joint Base Andrews which is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force. In 2009, Andrews Air Force Base merged with Naval Air Facility Washington to form Joint Base Andrews. Andrews is the home base of two Boeing VC-25A aircraft with the call sign Air Force One when the president is on board, that serve the President of the United States.
The host unit at Andrews is the 11th Wing, assigned to the Air Force District of Washington. It is responsible for maintaining emergency reaction rotary-wing airlift and other National Capital Region contingency response capabilities critical to national security, and for organizing, training, equipping and deploying combat-ready forces for Air and Space Expeditionary Forces (AEFs). The wing commander is Colonel Kenneth R. Rizer. The Command Chief Master Sergeant is Chief Master Sergeant Anthony Brinkley.

(1,811 posts)3. I seemed to hear a lot of military planes today
Did dotard go somewhere? I heard the distinct sound of a 747 going over at one point, but I also heard a transport plane, (I see the Galaxy C5A's out of Andrews sometimes) and a fighter jet. And a buncha whirlybirds, but that's normal around here. I'm in Falls Church.

KADW sees a lot of those.
