Hilarious!
He should have his face on the welcome sign to Boston. He's the quintessential Irish Bostonian....

(102,119 posts)or any of the other constant celebrity drones? At least there is something interesting from a cultural transcendence perspective about the royal coupling and something remarkably reassuring about their work for causes that the wealthy in this country eschew. Princess Di did some good raising these two young men, whether one wants the monarchy gone or not. How many of us will leave such a mark?

(11,787 posts)And don't get me started on the Kardashians! But I wouldn't call myself obsessed. If it's shoved down your throat, there's bound to be a backlash. More power to you if you wanted to watch it, like my wife. And, on the other hand, more power to you if you think "hey, this is America! We revolted against that shit." To each their own. I posted this for those that felt the latter.

(102,119 posts)It just seems the height of hypocrisy to be all upset about a British event that occurred Saturday morning, when we get harangued by these American celebrity poseurs who do NOTHING to help our society in ANY way, monopolizing the internet, social media, tv, and airwaves 24/7.
Damn. there is no comparison. So, is it because it is British that people are so obsessed with this yet take the ugly monopolization and culture draining affects our our own celebrity world in stride?
Talk about misplaced priorities and concerns.

(11,787 posts)I mean, how many posts on DU alone were dedicated to it? Not that it's a problem or wrong or whatever. Shit, I was posti g nothing but British music last nite because of the wedding. Like I said, I think it comes down to more, like, sensory overload. Ya know?

(102,119 posts)For heaven's sakes it is OVER and yet posts still are coming at us left and right to express concern about it?

(13,485 posts)Think about what you just said. Most of what I hear for days, weeks, months is sheer hell. A few hours of joyous celebration doesnt compare. It seems some don't get enough hell so they wish to undermine other people who have found some relief, something less deadly and painful for a few fleeting moments. I wonder what that guy finds in life that brings him joy outside of trying to relieve people of theirs? Underneath he's just envious.

(11,787 posts)But you can't force others to see the same thing you do. Some people are revolted by the concept of royalty. If you find joy in it great. Just as you don't appreciate his point of view, perhaps he doesn't appreciate yours. Right?

(13,485 posts)That it's royalty is no different to me than if it were some other celebrity. I wouldn't dream of forcing a celebration on anyone that doesn't want it but we do live in an open society where we just have to allow a few hours of interest to public demand when we don't find the same interest or even if we're revolted. Goes both ways, right? My opinion is he's envious of the popularity or he wouldn't be so concerned.
I dont deny his right to free speech or his rant. I just think tolerance is more productive.
