I wasn't the biggest Black Crowes fan...I guess it was because they were "heavily influenced" by Rod Stewart and Humble Pie, and as a fan of both, I found their stuff to be too derivative.

I kept hearing about singer Chris Robinson's "Chris Robinson Brotherhood," and how he migrated from the Crowes sound to more of a Grateful Dead "jam band" stance. Once again, I stayed away, because I already have about 200 Dead CDs. If I want to hear the Dead, I have it covered.

The two source albums, "Barefoot In The Head" and "Big Moon Ritual," do have some extended jams, but the sensibility is closer to "melodic" Dead, a la American Beauty, and less toward the more noodling / experimental stuff.

If you like "Ripple," you might enjoy a tune or two from these albums. I'd encourage you to poke around YouTube and see what you think.
