Veterinarian Dr. Jennifer Steketee holds Meow, a 2-year-old tabby at the shelter in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on April 19, 2012. Meow arrived at the shelter weighing in at over 39 pounds, after his elderly owner could no longer care for the feline. The shelter plans to put the cat on a special diet so he can lose weight gradually. Adult cats typically weigh between 7 and 12 pounds. (AP Photo/Santa Fe Animal Shelter, Ben Swan)

(37,457 posts)ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - He's the fat cat from New Mexico who's become an overnight sensation. Now, Mr. Meow has his own twitter feed with hundreds of followers.
It's the ultimate form of digital flattery. Kim Kardashian has one, so does Michael Wiener's hair; it's a fake Twitter feed.
The page is called The 37 LB Cat, and he already has 337 followers hanging on his every tweet.
The Santa Fe Animal shelter where Meow is being taken care of said no one at the shelter is behind the twitter feed. But spokesman Ben Swan said he suspects whoever is behind it pulled the information off the shelter's Facebook page and is tweeting it as their own

"Meow, the 37-pound cat who captured the national spotlight, died on Saturday afternoon from respiratory distress. Meow had been doing so well in his foster home; walking up stairs and seeking affection - that it is so very hard to believe he is gone," Executive Director at Santa Fe Animal Shelter Mary Martin said in a Facebook post."
