I think that the overall problem with the Star Wars universe is that the main characters are simply not all that interesting enough to support multiple feature films.

in every Star Wars since The Return of the Jedi with the exception of Rogue One. I think the characters themselves are compelling, but Solo was absolutely not the character to make a prequel of. As one commenter said no recasting for prequels unless they are masked characters or Ewan McGregor's Obi Wan Kenobi which was by far the best thing to come out of the prequel trilogy.

Because at least the characters were more interesting.

Behind Empire and A New Hope. Return was a lost opportunity. They should have gone with Wookies and a Chewbacca back story instead of the Ewoks. Also I was never a huge fan of the Anakin "redemption" - just because you save your son you don't blot out twenty plus years of genocidal behavior.

film and it is a mildly entertaining science fiction action movie. It really is a film few wanted to see made. At least Chewbacca isn't a glorified cab driver like in The Last Jedi - reduced to taking orders from a Mary Sue.

I thought Rogue One was excellent actually better than The Return of the Jedi because it had no Ewoks. Other than that I can't say much for the Disney Star Wars. The Force Awakens was a tired retread of A New Hope and The Last Jedi was a beautifully filmed movie full of garbage in its destruction of its characters - both old and new.

If you have a good tv at home, I would wait for the $2 Redbox BluRay if I were you. Eventually I think it is going to be on Netflix (the last Star Wars movie probably on that streaming service).

This movie got the shaft by Disney releasing it 5 friggin months after the last Star Wars movie. I am a huge SW fan and even I was SW-fatigued and didn't wanna see it, but turns out I enjoyed everything about it. The casting was excellent and the chemistry between the characters was so good. I am eagerly awaiting a sequel. This movie was ripped off by bad timing and deserves far better treatment than what it got. Hope you enjoy it like I did!

If for nothing else, go to see it on the big screen to fully appreciate the sheer magnificence of the young Lando.

The movie is full of references to the canon. Read up on the easter eggs so you won't miss them. My favorite is the tropical shirt Lando wears at the sabaac table...the pattern comes from a Ralph McQuarrie drawing.

Yes, I have seen them all. When the first one (now called "A New Hope" came out in the theaters in 1977, I saw it 7 times. There were no tapes or discs. When tapes and discs came out..I bought, "A New Hope" ..In fact, I bought it 3 or 4 times as new revisions came out.

So, I am a "Star Wars Fan..Yes, I found a place playing it on the "big screen." It is a 65 mile drive to that movie theater. In terms of current movies making money. ...This one "Solo" is one of the lowest growing movies currently still out. The site is called, "Box Office Mojo" it tells you how much current movies are making in the theaters.. Currently "Solo" is sixth from the bottom... This site tells you how many theaters are playing a movie, and how much money came in on average at each theater.. Also tells you how long that movie has been out
You can spend hours looking at how much money movies have made over time..and (yes, I have spent hours doing just that, going back a long way.) But if you can just look for a while, and then leave, this site is really fun.

A lot of the issues people had with "Last Jedi" disappeared.

Everything that happened in Last Jedi was set up by the Mystery Box that is J.J. Abrams in the first movie. Abrams loves him some Mystery Box - almost a Shyamalan level of obsession with twists and mysteries that turn into wispy plot dead-ends to be discarded.

The only thing I could tell that Rian Johnson may have changed from where Abrams was going was ruthlessly removing the idea that Force Sensitivity was genetic.
Everything else got the story to where Abrams obviously wanted it to go - closing the book on the Lucas Skywalker saga and opening up the huge, diverse, Disneyfied Star Wars universe...

Donald Glover was perfect as the younger Lando Calrissian.

It's space opera, it's fun, but its not going to change your life.

Donald Glover was an amazing Lando and I'd totally go see a Lando film if he starred in it. But the guy they got to play Han had zero charisma. Not even close to being on the same level as Harrison Ford.

A few nice action sequences, Wookies, Lando - I actually found it to be reminiscent in feel to the Goonies. Very late 1980's in a reasonably good way. No Raiders of the Lost Ark, but serviceable.

And it makes much more sense - and is much more enjoyable - if you've watched the two Star Wars animated series, Clone Wars and Rebels.
