The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo today I found out something about the job I was hoping to transfer into...
I have to interview for it! I haven't had to interview for a job in 25 years. I'm nervous. Someone hold me.

(16,862 posts)I know that I can do the job (at least I think I can), but I don't know how to answer questions about the job itself, should the manager ask me something in particular.

(82,849 posts)If they're looking seriously at you for this position, it's because they want you there. If they want you there, they will want you to succeed, or risk looking like they made a mistake. Most managers don't like to look like they made a mistake, so they'll be happy to help you out if you ask for help.

(16,862 posts)Is because I requested a transfer they're beholden to grant me an interview. That way they can say they followed proper channels.

(82,849 posts)No pressure, says I. Be witty, be charming. Tell amusing anecdotes. Suggest you all adjourn this charade of an interview and go get a beer.

(2,682 posts)The best you can do is go prepared to discuss the job in real terms. You can then develop a plan to convince them that YOU are the best one for the job. If you identify certain aspects of the job and then relate to the interviewer how you would approach it, they will be impressed with your knowledge.
Good Luck!!!
Oh, and don't forget this: the interview is also for YOU to find out about them. I remembered that once and asked many questions about the position (is this a new position or a replacement? why did the previous person leave? how much notice was given?) At the end, I told the interviewer that I would not be interested in the position based on the vague answers I got. She told me I was a very perceptive person. I figured out that the job was working with an asshole who had been driving person after person out of the job.
