For instance, I just sent a head of a dept. some spring stats.
He responds, "Thank you."
Now....does that need a "You're welcome?" or does that just waste the other person's time?
Your thoughts?
(This site says it's not necessary-- http://www.businessemailetiquette.com/9/thank-you-youre-welcome-thank-you-youre-welcome

(31,507 posts)There is no need to respond to that.

(63,172 posts)if you're simply sending an email to say "you're welcome" and nothing substantive beyond that, then you're probably wasting your time and the recipient's.
If you're saying something like "You're welcome, and please let me know if you need more information," then you're communicating something beyond the empty idiom, and the message becomes considerably more worthwhile as a result.

It may not hurt to do it but it's not needed.

I don't respond with "You're welcome"... it just seems to prolong the conversation for no purpose.

(36,248 posts)The person who sent "Thank You." is merely acknowledging receipt of the original message in a courteous way.
