DEADHEADS: Your favorite song/album?

My favorite album has to be American Beauty, with such great songs as "Ripple".."Friend of the Devil".."Box of Rain" .."Operator" (Ron 'Pigpen" McKernan song).."Sugar Magnolia"..and my all-time favorite Grateful Dead song, Truckin'

What's really interesting for me, I was just fleshing out the story of Tony Rice's (originally Clarence White's) magical 1935 D-28 Martin guitar and revisited the Pizza Tapes. Good stuff.

22. I have that New Riders album

plus their second album

I love the New Riders.

As you probably already know, Jerry Garcia played pedal steel guitar on that album.

24. Yes. My cabinet shop was next door to Hard Truckers in San Rafael back in the day

The New Riders of the Purple Sage used the Hard Truckers shop for jamming and equipment storage. Even after Garcia left, he was always around, along with a whole bunch of notable people in the Marin music scene. Friday afternoons were always interesting.

13. No favorites, they are way too many good ones.

My favorite albums are Live Dead (Skull and Roses) and Bear's Choice.

The sonic clarity on Live Dead was really amazing given the state of audio technology in 1971. They were firing on all 8 cylinders in that show.

Bears Choice was also live, but was one of my favorites because Ron McKernan was playing and singing at his best.

I loved watching him play the piano.

China Cat Sunflower, Sugar Magnolia, Samson and Delilah, Franklin’s Tower, even the Disco Dead and offshoot ones. Garcia and Grisman were wonderful, and I have a silly soft spot for Bob Weir even at his cheesiest.

"The Promise of the Real' (with Willie Nelson's son, Lukas Nelson) plus other bands at the "Sweetwater in the Sun" festival.

On October 19, he & his band perform at "Across the Great Divide" benefit concert in L.A.
with John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Lee Ann Womack and "Special Guests"
