Today's experience with that terrible French "Socialist" medical system

On Tuesday we forgot the "R" rule. We ate oysters, mussels and some other things raw - in May. Bad move.

Two AM this morning - much distress, no sleep, fainting, the other things that happen with "intoxifacation alimentaire".

The doctor we found this morning said we'll be ok in three days and wrote an "ordanance" for some sort of stomach comforting medicine.

We called his office at 10A. "Is it possible to get here before noon?"

We showed up. He examined us both. Wrote the prescription. Said to restrict our diet to bland food for the next three days, which, considering the way we're feeling won't be difficult and charged the two of us 23Euros. For an unscheduled office visit, to a guy we'd never met. And he gave us a note for the rental car agency so that we don't have to pay for today's rental (we were supposed to pick up the car this morning).

I asked about wine and he looks at me and says, "You're in France. A small glass or two tomorrow won't hurt."

and I am so happy that there are humane systems out there but yet very sad that we will never know one here (in our life times, at least).
Btw - I am glad that you all will be doing well soon. When is the oyster/mussel season?
