I first heard this song on the album American Beauty. I'd not heard it before but it was HIGHLY recommended and thought I'd take a chance because we loved the Dead. Friend of the Devil was immediately my favorite and is still one of my fave Dead songs decades later. Thanks for sharing sunshine daydreams.

Many artists have recorded it...I found Tom Petty’s recording of it on my son’s iPod play list when he was just 11 years old. I asked him about it and he said “I just really like it.”

Nice rendition, especially the instrumentals and chorus! I love Tom Petty too. Too many good ones have gone too early.
