Well, I guess I don't need to give you a spoiler alert, because the thread title itself is pretty much a spoiler. I had HBO on yesterday while waiting for Bill Maher's show. Saw the last 45 minutes or so of "One Day." Wished I'd watched something else.

(30,885 posts)I just thought the movie was INCREDIBLY CONTRIVED. I understand there are certain conventions in "love stories," but I just found the movie to be manipulative.
It's like the book "The Shack." I read the whole thing and when I got to the point where the payoff was revealed I wanted to throw it out the nearest damned WINDOW.

(22,434 posts)There's one point in the movie where she utters the phrase
"large body of water".
It rings SO phony that my daughter and I both busted out laughing.

I believe they did take her out back and shoot her.

(16,327 posts)and had trouble sleeping afterwards. I really felt taken advantage of as a viewer. To spend an entire movie showing us how perfect they really are for each other and making us want them to get together, then killing her off like that?? The whole thing felt very wrong.

(30,885 posts)It really felt a little crass and calculating, like they started off with the germ of a story being that the "female romantic lead" would get flattened by a delivery truck, and their job was to "flesh out" the story to support that.

(16,327 posts)really nails it about the movie/ending:

(30,885 posts)...especially pointing out the fact that the "not giving the audience what they want" thing CAN work out, as it did with David Chase and "The Sopranos." I watched every episode of that series, but if you asked me if I wanted it to end with Tony and his family munching on onion rings while listening to Journey, I'm pretty sure I would have said no.

(12,008 posts)her mom gets shot by a hunter, and then her owner shoots her when she gets rabies? That's a movie I might want to see.
