No worries. We voted early. See if you can figure out where we've been. I'll give you a hint. All three of these places are very famous. After you all get it nailed down, I'll post a little story below.

(10,418 posts)And, being from Canada, how did you know? Have you been down here much?

(118,608 posts)Never been to Tennessee except maybe through the Smokey Mountains on the way to Florida. I'm just a context person. You and Jen look fantastic. You both look so healthy. I'm on my way to getting healthier. Was the studio associated with Elvis?

That is Sun Studio. That is the birthplace of rock and roll and where Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison all got their starts.
The story goes is that Elvis had an audition there. He was playing country tunes with two other musicians and Sam Philips, the owner of studio, wasn't impressed. Elvis almost blew it. Then he started playing this upbeat blues tune. The other two musicians were strictly country artists, but they joined in the best they could with what they knew. Country married the blues and rock and roll was born.
The microphone we are posing with is original to the studio and would have been used by all of those people I named.
Thanks for the compliment.

Hey Tobin, you ever get to meet up w/Squi for some brewskis by chance?
Tobin S.
(10,418 posts)Don't know me no Squi, although I've heard that name somewhere here recently.

(10,418 posts)Tobin is a rare name. I remember seeing the SNL skit now with Matt Damon.

(16,858 posts)Used to eat lunch at the cafe, now gift shop, attached to the studio at least twice a week in med school...I crammed for damn near every major test in my first two years in those cafe booths. I'd like to think the history there gave me a little extra inspiration!

(16,858 posts)I was a tour guide at Graceland for a couple years. I also used to eat lunch at the old cafe, now gift shop, attached to Sun Studios. That place was my church for several years. Hope you enjoyed your time there!

(10,418 posts)Elvis is one of my wife's heroes. She said she had a spiritual experience at Sun Studios. She broke down in tears as the tour guide was telling us about the place.
Docreed2003
(16,858 posts)There's too much history in that small studio not to have some spiritual energy there. I went to medical school just a couple blocks up the street at UT Health Sciences Center, the state affiliated medical/dental/pharmacy etc school!

(16,377 posts)Knew immediately. How did you like it? Wouldn't want to move back or anything, but the BBQ is the best!
Tobin S.
(10,418 posts)And we did get to experience some of that BBQ. We stopped in at Marlow's just down the street from Graceland. Being a trucker, I've been through Memphis many times, but never got the chance to hang out and see a little bit of the place. My wife wanted to go there because of Elvis- one of her heroes.

(38,310 posts)We visited Graceland when our kids were teens, on our drive-across-the-U.S.A. road trip.
It's a fascinating place.
