Fuuuuuck! My teen got busted driving my car w/o a license, and now it's impounded!

I was taking a nap, and she decided to drive her friends home.

Small rural town, she could have taken back roads, but she was cocky and had friends in the car, playing music, etc
She's a good kid, straight A's and she's freaking out...but at least it's just a ticket and not a car crash, right?

Now she can't get her license till she's 18.

oh, and my registration was overdue (waiting for a paycheck to fix that, oops)
so now I have to pay the registration AND the impound fee

or, rather I have to borrow money from my parents to pay for it

Just another Sunday with teenagers

guh.

It’s to bad that they didn’t call you to at least bring car home instead of impounding. I think they will do that sometimes. Hopefully the week will get better.

from outstanding inspection tickets, roughly $300 something dollars.

Impound cost of 3 days was another $300 something dollars.

Get your car out of the impound as quickly as you can.

I had my son pay me back for every cost.

Good luck!

Sucks big time.
Nice that the kid is fucked for another two years.
Always good that there is a lesson in what one does.
Not always happy time but, a learning situations.

Years ago I got the 2am Saturday phone call,"this is Officer blah blah with the Highway Patrol. Your son's ok, but he wrapped the car around a street sign. Can you come and get him?"

He was supposed to be at an overnight with some friends. They got bored playing video games and 4 guys decided to take 2 cars and go out to find some fun roads. They were 40 miles away!

My husband went to get them. He said it was a very quiet ride back. We made him pay the deductible on the insurance. He did have his license. He could have just as easily wrapped the car around a tree and been dead.

That she thought she could take the car w/o having a license is a serious offense. She absolutely needs to pay the impound fee. The overdue registration is on you, alas.

And yes, good it's just a ticket and not a crash.

Actually, one excellent reason to drive a stick shift car is that an underage person cannot just take the keys and start driving. I also figure I'm extremely safe from being carjacked because I drive a stick.

It's our job. So many of my friend's just bail their kids out of trouble again and again and again. These are the kids who show no respect to their parents, flip them off, etc. I just shake my head.

not because of any legal trouble but because of economic circumstance.

It turned out fine because most of his friends were licensed, and of course because mom (meaning me) was very accommodating.

... she had woke you up from your nap. (Should have, could have, would have...)

My guess if her friends really needed to get home you would have driven them.

This will be a lesson for her. All teens think they won't get caught (doing whatever) until they do.
