My brother told me and I think "uh-oh". But it goes in a nice direction. The boy and his dad show up in the driveway (they live about 30 miles away). The dad wanted to meet my niece. They visited for an hour or so. Then the young couple go to the Hunger games - with the boy's dad,my sister-in-law and my 2 other younger nieces.

I'm very glad it went so nicely.

(22,434 posts)My daughter wanted me to take her there so she could meet him "in a mall".
No dice, I told her, I would have to meet his family.
My husband and I have always loved Montreal (we had our honeymoon there),
and my brother-in-law lives nearby in Vermont, so on our next vacation we decided
to go to Montreal.
I called Connor's father and although it WAS awkward, he agreed that we could
stop by and the kids could do some sight-seeing together.
What a WONDERFUL vacation it turned out to be! His family was wonderful,
he was wonderful, and we had a wonderful time, with his family even taking
our daughter for an evening while my husband and I went out and re-created
some of our honeymoon dates.
The two kids are SO alike. They are male and female versions of the same person,
and they would only have met on the internet.
They are still internet "pen-pals", over three years later, and this summer,
after we visit my brother-in-law, we're dropping her off in Montreal for a few
days, and she'll take the train home.
I think that parental involvement is the key.
