the holidays may suck for you.
They suck for me.
If they suck for you, own it proudly. You'll feel better by not having to put up a charade.
Sing it loud, sing it strong...

(17,425 posts)Hang on, spring will be here in the blink of an eye.
I actually count down the things that have to happen to get through the winter:
Halloween
Thanksgiving
Christmas Eve
Christmas
New Years Eve
New years day
Super Bowl
Anniversary date of the death of a loved one
So in my case, 25% through.

(46,036 posts)I gave up pretending years ago. It's totally freeing.
That said, I am a church goer, so I do all the church stuff, but that's fun. I much prefer Easter.

(2,218 posts)and some are too complex to explain.
The easiest one to blame is the fact that my birthday is two days after Christmas.
I've never gotten to have a day where people make a big fuss over me because it's my special day.
I'm not a seeker of the limelight, in fact I am an avoider, which makes this situation really emotionally complicated because I want it but if I got it I would not feel good about being the center of attention.
So I know this sounds kind of silly for a soon-to-be-71 year old and even sillier because I am a Psychologist by profession and should have worked this out by now.
But there is a pouty little kid in me that says: NO. I don't have to work it out. This my feeling about it and everyone can just bite me if they don't like it.
The truth is, nobody ever notices I have that feeling, which makes it worse and on and on.
Pity party over. Off to find some worms to eat.
