Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSiriusXM experts...please explain the cheapest / easiest way to listen in my home, not my car.
I've been thinking about a Roku stick...I know I can access it that way, but I'm not sure I want to listen to it on the TV.
I am a 100% novice in the ways of Alexa and Echo Dots, and don't want to invest a small fortune in them. All I know about this "phenomenon" is the name, nothing else.
I am not an "audiophile"...I currently don't have a stereo system. My "stereo" is my laptop, attached to some reasonably nice Altec Lansing speakers with a sub-woofer.
I just want to listen with the minimum of expense and equipment and hassle, so if you are a SiriusXM user, your thoughts would be appreciated.

(18,552 posts)I have recently begun using it on my computer and love it. Amazing selections and they are running a 3 mos for $1 special now. Even if you don't subscribe, the ads are not unbearable.

(18,837 posts)And yes, I take advantage of the 3 month special whenever it comes around (I signed up again last week).
The reason I want Sirius is for Little Steven's Underground Garage. It's Channel 21, with Steven Van Zandt and several DJs, notably Michael Des Barres. So if I want to listen, I have to get SiriusXM. It's not about the music...I have no shortage of that (approximately 4000 albums). It's about the anecdotes shared on the shows. Des Barres, in particular, has some pretty fascinating stuff to share.

(2,176 posts)I bought an antique looking radio/cd player last year that has blue tooth that I can connect to my cell phone. Is there an app for Sirius that you can get on your cell phone. If you could get something inexpensive that plays with a blue tooth, you could link it to your phone and listen in house. Don't know if there is one, but just a suggestion.

(3,433 posts)I don't know if it costs more but I used to do it all the time when I had Sirius

(18,837 posts)My understanding is that you have to do it through something like a Roku stick to the TV, or to an Alexa device such as Amazon Dot.

Ok I just looked it up and you can stream on your PC or MAC via the Sirius App, you don't need Alexa or any of that other stuff.

(964 posts)I do it on a MacBook Air. Also can do it from an iPhone app. I think there is a special price for streaming only.

(3,433 posts)I can't tell you how many hours I spent listening to Stern or OutQ.

(5,857 posts)but it depends on what subscription you have.

(60,536 posts)The deals sound good but, I just don't want to pay an additional $10.49 per month for a subscription. We have Dish TV in our home...we get some, not all, stations (as far as I know, they are all music stations) and it plays on the TV. Sometimes the offers from Sirius, contained in those emails, includes a hook-up for another car, sometimes just for the radio.

There are many ways to game.. But generally you can keep calling for our 6/30 plan

(18,837 posts)First, I use WiFi (my girlfriend has the router in the living room, I have my laptop in the bedroom). I access Hulu, Netflix, Spotify and the Web without issue and pretty decent speed.
I got the $5 / month streaming promo plan.
Went to the streaming link, songs played 15 to 20 seconds and stopped. Not buffering...stopped. Clicked "restart program," it played th same amount of time and stopped.
Called tech support. They had me try three different browsers. Same thing happened in all of them.
They had me download and install the SiriusXM app for Windows 10. Same thing happened. Had me uninstall it, download it again, install it again, same thing happened.
They told me that the "stopping" thing was a documented issue and they were going to escalate it, and I'd get a response in 7 to 10 business days. At this point I cancelled the account and they issued a refund.
Ever hear of this issue?

We are betting our future on Online Streaming. We even acquired Pandora.
Makes me nervous.

(3,818 posts)and in my home. I mostly listen on my cellphone when not in my car as it is portable as I'm going from room to room or working in my yard/garden but if you have Bluetooth in your car then you can listen there too with your cell phone. You can google how to get a good rate for Sirius/XM. I always get the all access for a good deal. I love Sirius/XM, wouldn't go without it.

(8,584 posts)They wanted to charge me for it, but when I complained, they sent it for free. They said it was something like $49 dollars and when I said that was too much, they told me to hold on, came back and said I could have it for nothing. Only problem with it was you could not take it from room to room. Call them.
