How many countries and territories have you visited?

The Travelers’ Century Club is a club that anyone who has visited 100 or more of the places listed on their official list is eligible to join. The official list is of 327 places. Some are not actually countries in their own right, they have been included because they are removed from the parent country. For instance, Alaska and Hawaii are separate from the USA so they each count. Even spending a short time like a stopover in the airport or driving through counts.

http://travelerscenturyclub.org/countries-and-territories

I've been to 15 countries so far. I have also visited 48 states. I haven't been to Alaska, Hawaii or any of the us territories yet.

USA
Iceland
Ireland
Wales
England
The Netherlands
France
Denmark
Sweden
Italy
Spain
Portugal
Vatican City
Canada
Mexico

We are a well-travelled family (30 year expat, 60+ countries) and we have one firm rule: landing at an airport does not count unless you pass through immigration. No stamp, no country.

I got to add Cote d'Ivoire unintentionally through this rule when a flight to Accra was diverted and they made us go through immigration upon landing in Abidjan.

I got to Copenhagen late at night from Rome. I checked into the hotel and fell asleep. The next morning I had breakfast and caught a morning flight to Sweden. I can't say that I saw any of Denmark but I was in the country over night. Someday I would like to go back.

I pretty much had the same experience in Iceland. Iceland was the first foreign country that I ever set foot in but I was not there very long. I would like to go back there as well.

It looks like you have been to some interesting places. I had a friend who only left the USA once. It was to go to Bulgaria. She isn't Bulgarian. She just wanted to go there. That was a few years ago so hopefully she has traveled some more.

But my work is usually to the same places. Maybe it's not too late to expand my horizons.

From the list (and not counting airport transfers):
Hawaiian Islands
Alaska
Canada
Mexico
USA (something like 44 out of 50)
Ecuador
Antigua
Guadeloupe
St. Vincent and the Grenadines
U.S. Virgin Islands
Iceland
Madeira
Andorra
Austria
Belgium
Crete
Croatia
Czech Republic
Denmark
England
Finland
France
Germany
Hungary
Italy
Luxembourg
Montenegro
Netherlands
Norway
Poland
Portugal
Romania
Russia
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland (like 2 hours ago!)
Seychelles
Hong Kong
Japan
Singapore
Thailand

I think that's only like 41 or so.

Of course, some political entities, like West Berlin, East Germany (DDR) and Yugoslavia don't even exist any more!
