I already have a server and domain, but I need the software where you put everything together offline. I would need a program that can handle lots of links. Much like Adobe Reader. In fact, think Adobe Reader with a blog look. I like the look of Wordpress, but I don't know if it does what I want it to do.
Anyone have any ideas?

(6,568 posts)There is no offline programming software. Its installed on your web server, and you login remotely. Lots of plugins and template layouts to get you started.
You can, however, emulate a wordpress server locally and set everything up first. I did this once, but it was more of a pain that it was worth in the end.

(17,506 posts)I like WordPress in part because if you ever decide to move to another platform its super easy, unlike many.
Seconding the poster above who suggested plugins. Short codes too.

The two are Word Press for Dummies and WordPress Web Design for Dummies. Both by Lisa Sabin-Wilson.
Most of the practical, every day stuff I learned by doing or by reading the WordPress community-based Support Forums or their online documentation: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
