just not quite when I meant to or how I meant to.
I didn't live far from the bar it was at. It was really warm here for central Idaho and I left my truck home and walked down there. I never drove when I was really drunk, but in those days I probably pushed it a little too often.
I think I had about 13 gin and tonics. I'm a real big guy, but that was still a pretty good load for me. When a buddy of mine was leaving, we were bullshitting and walking along and out in the parking lot. He got in his rig and I kind of just started walking home. About 15 minutes later going up my steps, I think WTF am I doing? I left my coat and a nice prize I won there.
The rest of the crew saw my stuff and looked all over for me. They thought I might have hooked up with this one waitress I was talking to all night that I went to school with. No such luck and she did her job too well for that anyway! I just went to bed and figured they would grab my stuff for me.
Another night I walked home was like ten below zero. I planned for that. I had an Army surplus parka stashed in my truck. A cooler full of beer in case I ended up somewhere not serving. The cooler to keep it from freezing.
I had enough at the bar and it was late enough that I'd better go. I went out to my truck and froze my ass off for a minute getting into my parka and gloves. Then I grabbed a few beers for the road and took off walking! You have to drink a beer pretty quick at that temp or it will freeze up!
