The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo I guess I'm supposed to introduce myself
now that I've made 10 posts. This reminds me of the 1990 SNL episode where Tom Hanks is inducted into the "5-Timers' Club." http://snl.wikia.com/wiki/Five-Timers_Club
I am a former Army sergeant, a telecommunications troubleshooter who helped create the military Internet system in Europe. After my service, I was a computer programmer and designer of applications that enabled PNC Bank to acquire LIHTC (Low Income Housing Tax Credit) development deals, helping poverty-level people attain homes. I am proud of both accomplishments.
I am currently dying. I won't be here very long. But I have some things to say before I go.
I have been a Democrat since voting for Clinton against Bush. I am today opposed entirely to the GOP.
I am also an avid UFO conspiracist.
So that's me.

(4,919 posts)DU has been a huge part of my life, every day since the Florida 2001 recount. I'm sure we can point you to posters to seek out that bring us topics you may want to read/discuss. For example, I love science, and JudiLynn curates and posts amazing articles. There are many other DU members that bring extra joy to my life without knowing it. I hope you discover the same. Thank you for joining!
I also love a good UFO story... Since reading about Betty and Barney Hill!!

(14,570 posts)I for one want to hear what you have to say.
I'm not particularly into UFOs, but I certainly believe in some of the theories around the death of JFK and international banking's role in that. I refer, of course, to EO 11110, June 1963, where JFK ordered the printing of silver backed notes that would compete with Federal Reserve notes. And gosh, we all know what happened to him in November that year.
And, though few know it now, Lincoln refused to borrow from bankers and instead had his government print greenbacks. Trivia point: do you know why and when the Secret Service was brought into being?
Where tinfoil hats are concerned, actually, I'm a big believer in getting rid of the Fed for a whole host of reasons (have you read Ellen Brown or related authors?).
Anyway, welcome!
Please accept my wish that you live long enough to accomplish those things you've set your heart on.

(317 posts)to you, Big Sar'nt, please don't hesitate to hit me up. I have a soft spot in my heart for all the NCOs who worked tirelessly to try to square-away this old fart. Their failure to succeed resulted from the hopelessness of the mission from its start, despite their heroic efforts.

(27,792 posts)Sorry to hear about your being ill.
I, too, have believed in UFOs since I was about 12.
One of my favorite UFO books is "Invisible Residents" by Ivan Sanderson.
If you haven't already read it, you might want to.
I'm familiar with the UFO authors you mentioned above, as well as the following:
- Stanton Friedman
- Jacques Fabrice Vallee
- Erich von Daniken
- Billy Meier
- Philip J. Corso
- Dr. Steven M. Greer
- Budd Hopkins
- Linda Moulton Howe
- J. Allen Hynek
- Donald Kehoe, former Marine Corps officer and leader of NICAP, (the largest
civilian UFO research group in the U.S.)
- Bob Lazar
- George Knapp, investigative journalist
- Dr. John E. Mack, Harvard psychiatry professor and alien abduction researcher
I'm also very interested in "out-of-body" experiences (OBEs), and I highly recommend the three books written by the man who came up with the term OBE,
Robert Monroe.
I think you would like his books, even though they're not directly related to UFOs.
His first book is called "Journeys Out of the Body" (1971)
I look forward to seeing your UFO posts here in the DU Lounge.
trev
(1,480 posts)I especially like Vallee, who, like Sagan, adopted an open scientific mind to extraterrestrial life.

Mack won a Pulitzer Prize for his book "A Prince of Our Disorder: The Life of T.E. Lawrence" (1976), and wrote several other books including "Passport To the Cosmos"
He died at 74 in London after being struck by a drunk driver while walking home.
trev
(1,480 posts)And I'm well familiar with Sagan's activism. It's one of the things I liked him for. He was the first scientist to warn about nuclear winter.

Leaping from the Ledge of Infinite Regress,
The Unmoved Mover fell into Formlessness:
Pure silence echoed between the galaxies,
Eons of eons vanished in a second,
Withered trees bloomed in fires,
Polar mountains melted, rivers went dry,
Thusness scattered in sixty directions,
Space became Time, time became things,
Black Holes filled with Nirvana,
A billion samadhi mirrors shattered,
Galaxies snuggled within a single skull,
Many became One, One only, only One.
Then, the Divine Illuminatrix in All Beings
Opened Her clouded Eye, to see:
Flowers in the Sky.
