The pressure of outdoor holiday lighting has begun...

Let me state for the record, I would be fine with a wreath on the door and a bow on the mailbox. Possibly a door buzzard. I like outdoor lights but I like them fine on other people's houses.

Spouse: He's ALL in! Ladders and wire and garland and lights.

Last year, he won first place in the neighborhood decorating contest. It was pretty and not over the top. I would describe it as cute. He had received an honorable mention years ago but last year was the first time in a long time that the house was decorated before the contest. We were shocked to win.

This year, he is concocting something new. Why? Because he's been doing the same thing for a few years and now everybody's seen it. (But it's cute, I think.)

It's bitter cold and rainy right now but he's outside engineering something on a piece of wire fence to be placed in the front yard. He's on the second set of lights as the first ones didn't look right. Wouldn't rope lights work better I asked? He glared at me. I'm now sitting here with the dogs minding my own business.

decorating for Christmas. I usually put a small lit tree out by the front door on a timer... This year, I'm more mindful of wasting a lot of electricity so a wreath on the door, lots of festive red bows and a holiday themed house flag lit by a passive solar light and surrounded by small live potted firs that I hope to plant after Christmas-- is going to have to do it for me.

I love Christmas lights, but for personal reasons, I just don't want to indulge a lot this year.
