. . . from the standpoint of innocent bystanders, which I assume was their principal concern.

From what I read in a news story about this incident, the police did not initiate the high speed chase until after the perpetrator had herself sped recklessly through a populated area, after refusing to pull over for what the police thought would be a routine traffic stop. Apparently, the driver had outstanding felony warrants and put her desire to flee above any concern for people she might hurt by doing so. Assuming this recounting of the situation is accurate, the police had a responsibility to act as they did, it seems to me.

You do not put anyone's life at risk during a high speed chase, tho the driver had warrants those cops didn't think about the passengers in that car!! They may have been innocent of anything.

They had the plate number,they should have called the cars off and let the helicopter do the job it is intended for.
