One of nature’s gifts. Sometimes in the morning I put my ear to my kitty’s side so I can start the day with a full-strength dose! And in times of stress, when she lies on my stomach, we share in the vibe.

You might have a healing cat!

Yes, there is such a thing!

I have one and he is kind of mean if you happen to look at him the wrong way.

I was having a horrible time with my feet. The pain has been just awful!

Said cat (who tends to keep his distance) began to come up to me and gently wrap his paws around my legs and feet! He did this three days in a row and was purring loudly while giving me his "treatment".

Here I am several days later and my feet are abt. 90% better now.

I guess he likes me after all and those loud purrs sure feel good on my legs and feet!

Do you have a healing cat too?

If so, keep that cat around even if he/she gets out of sorts now and then.

A healing cat provides all of the comfort in the world when they purr!

She too was cranky. She was a serious cat - no silliness.

When I got sick she turned into what I call my nurse cat. She checked out my nostrils daily and when she could tell I could not sleep at night, she stationed herself above my pillow, put her chin on my head and purred. There is no way a person can think when their skull is vibrating to a cat's purr. I usually went to sleep, but if she quit purring before I was asleep, all I had to do was reach up and touch her head and she would start up again. Sleep ensued.

She did other amazing things. She was just an amazing cat.

6. I have his brother as well

The brother is much different than he is (but looks almost identical). He is a huge silver tabby cat with tufts on his ears. He weighs abt. 20 lbs. whereas his very compact, very serious brother is a bit smaller.

He does some of the strangest things I've ever seen a cat do.

He ran away for a few days abt. 6 mos. ago and he came back. He got a good spanking from his silver brother and he's never done it again luckily.

I hope I live a long time, well long enough to care for all three of my cats. It is so difficult to know isn't it?

Glad to know you too having a contrary healer in your home too! They are serious because they have an important job to do, that's what I think.

Congratulations!

She's a small long haired calico and the sweetest thing. We had taken in my son's cat, and she wasn't happy about it. We had Mimi for 2 years when she got sick and all of a sudden having difficulties eating. We found out she had advanced cancer and would pass any day. Zoey (my Calico) came right up to Mimi the minute we got home from the dr., first time ever. She smelled her, then licked her face and attached herself to Mimi's side for the next 3 days, until Mimi could no longer eat or drink and we had to make the decision. I help Mimi in my lap most of the time and Zoey would lay pressed up against both of us, washing Mimi and snuggling her. She's a small cat, only 5 lbs., but she has a huge purr and she purred all the time while she was next to her step-sister. When our old dog was literally on his last legs, she slept by him constantly, grooming him and purring. They loved each other so much.

very softly purr. Her body heat is very soothing on my head and her purring is the only sound I can tolerate when I have a migraine. However, my other spoiled one, Otis, is like a bull in a china shop. He'll jump on the bed or couch, discombobulate Sammy, then he finishes the ambush by launching himself off of my stomach while I'm fighting nausea. Every kitty can't be a feline Florence Nightingale!

when our beloved Golden Retriever would go into panic over thunderstorms, our male cat would go to him, lie down next to his head, sometimes had to partly lie ON his head, and purr like crazy. The dog would relax, and sometimes doze off.

Later I stumbled across the study article.

the rate of a cat's purr is similar across the species, except for the jaguar I believe. Orthopedic medicine sometimes uses a device that is placed over broken and injured bones to speed healing. Its vibration is within the same range as a cat's purr.
If people could purr, maybe we would be happier. At least we get to have cats that can share their purrs.

I attribute that to the fact that she was not spayed until she was eight years old, when I adopted her from a shelter, and obviously had many litters of kittens to care for because she lived with five other cats. She is so sweet and loving. I have had many loving and bonded cats over the years, but this one is really dear. I love that she goes with me to the bathroom at night and waits to be carried back to bed, purring all the way.

11. Cat purrs can be healing for the cat, and for you:
Tue Dec 11, 2018, 07:03 PM
Dec 2018
Scientists have demonstrated that cats produce the purr through intermittent signaling of the laryngeal and diaphragmatic muscles. Cats purr during both inhalation and exhalation with a consistent pattern and frequency between 25 and 150 Hertz. Various investigators have shown that sound frequencies in this range can improve bone density and promote healing.

This association between the frequencies of cats' purrs and improved healing of bones and muscles may provide help for some humans. Bone density loss and muscle atrophy is a serious concern for astronauts during extended periods at zero gravity. Their musculo-skeletal systems do not experience the normal stresses of physical activity, including routine standing or sitting, which requires strength for posture control.

Because cats have adapted to conserve energy via long periods of rest and sleep, it is possible that purring is a low energy mechanism that stimulates muscles and bones without a lot of energy. The durability of the cat has facilitated the notion that cats have "nine lives" and a common veterinary legend holds that cats are able to reassemble their bones when placed in the same room with all their parts. Purring may provide a basis for this feline mythology. The domestication and breeding of fancy cats occurred relatively recently compared to other pets and domesticated species, thus cats do not display as many muscle and bone abnormalities as their more strongly selected carnivore relative, the domestic dog. Perhaps cats' purring helps alleviate the dysplasia or osteoporotic conditions that are more common in their canid cousins. Although it is tempting to state that cats purr because they are happy, it is more plausible that cat purring is a means of communication and a potential source of self-healing.

who are allergic to cats can tolerate Siberians. This breed is one that has lower levels of the allergen causing protein in their saliva.

My husband is allergic to cats and we have three Siberians. If you google Siberian breeders, you will see that many of them test their cats for their allergen levels.

If you get one, please let me know! Also, there are FB groups for Siberians. You can see lots of photos and meet some breeders that way. Lots of gorgeous cats if you don't mind long-hair.

Chloe on the right, is an incredible purring cat. She just walks near us and she's purring. I work an overnight shift and go to bed around 5pm and she gets right into bed with me. She tucks in and starts kneeding me and just purrs and purrs. I usually just rest my hand on her and let the vibes ease me into sleep. It's very relaxing.
Poe, the other fella next to her is not much of a purrer, he does, but it's more subtle, he's more of a drooler, that is when he allows you to pet him.

From the first night home, she slept on my upper chest right above my wounded heart. As I was falling asleep that first night, she slowly began to purr, seeming to increase the intensity to a level of purring I had never seen from any cat. Within minutes I had the chilling sensation of being in a walk-in cooler – and my chest pains temporarily lifted.

I thought, "Wow, you are a healing animal!"

"Oh, Don," I heard her reply, "we're ALL healing animals."
