More on "Murphy Brown"

I don't know how the ratings are. It really does go to the point. The other week, her son, Avery, who works for "Wolf" network got his own show into prime time. But.. at the end he had to read that crap about their news. He could not do it and was fired.

This week, Murphy had a pentagon guy who would avoid her question about what and why are we still in Afghanistan.

The dog on the show is named Ari and he’s a therapy dog.

And I think the show is improving too. I wasn’t impressed by the first couple but they’re getting better I think.

figured out that the Brown dog was going to have a name that was a riff on Ben Hur.

We were naming the dog Ben the very first scene when Murphy agreed to take him home.

Altho it's stated it was always created as a 13 episode run.

Of course, if the ratings had been through the roof, that might have been different... but the ratings just haven't been there.

Next week, Episode 13.. so turn in to see how Avery does in Afghanistan!

8. Demographically, it never had the same shot as Roseanne/The Connors

The show was a popular skewer of the Regan/Bush administrations and skewed older demographically thirty years ago. Networks value the 18-49 demographic; most of the original Murphy Brown viewers have aged out. Roseanne always skewed to a younger demo, and also spent many of the intervening years in reruns on a variety of cable channels. Plus, it had kids in its original run, and kids who followed those kids are now in their 40s.

I like Murphy Brown, but I'll also say it took about three episodes for the actors to shake the rust off - a problem Roseanne / The Connors really didn't have (most, not all, of their actors have worked regularly since the show ended). Also, the show doesn't work as well without the Jim Dial and Eldon characters.

Murphy Brown was, and therefore could not be syndicated.

The writing is outstanding and timely. I was disappointed when I heard it was only suppose to be for a limited 13 episode run.
