Elon Musk, genius-inventor and visionary, has just invented the car on tracks.

https://theconcourse.deadspin.com/visionary-brain-genius-elon-musk-has-invented-the-world-1831210269

You need a Tesla. Outfitted with an extra-set of special wheels.

You drive into the tunnel. You drive through the tunnel, on tracks, in your car, in one long queue.

If one car breaks down, the tunnel is clogged.

The tunnel has no emergency-lane and is barely wide enough to open your door.

The test-run was made at 49 mph and a journalist complained that it was as bumpy as a dirt-road.

I haven't heard that they can reuse the rocket right-away, but they can surely reuse some parts of it after maintenance. At they won't have to build a brand-new rocket from scratch.

3. We've had those things in Europe for over a century. Over here, we call them "trains."

You don't even need a Tesla for them to cause a traffic back-up or have a bumpy ride.

Some people have imaginations that run faster than they can verbalize, and maybe Musk has something in mind so out-of-the-box that he was thinking of some incredible new thing no one can imagine, and he just verbalized it poorly for the rest of us mortals?

Our addiction to automobiles is the basic problem. Inventing better cars still leaves us with cars.

I probably won't see it in my lifetime, at least not on a large scale endeavor. But can see it for mass transportation.

But in California? I would be so scared of being in one of those tunnels and there is an earthquake.

17. There are only two ways how this can evolve:

1. Public mass-transit system.
Bicycles for rent in tiny parking-lots all over the city. Unlocked and paid with your Smartphone.
+ buses
+ short-range trains/subways
+ long-range high-speed trains.
(Europe already has this system.)

2. Communally owned driverless cars.
Ordered and sent back on an as-needed basis.
