I worked with one for a year or so back in '03 when I decided to lose weight and get in shape. I did it through a club, so you paid up front for X number of months. I tipped him occasionally - $10 or $20 and $50 at the holidays. He worked my ass off and I got down from 255 to 198. I've only put 10-15 back on in the near-decade since. Very much worth the time and money, IMO, if you can afford it, as I could then.

most gyms, and even the YMCA will let you have a couple of free personal trainer evaluations and sessions with your membership.

After that the fees vary. They can be $15 an hour and up or a fee for a certain number of sessions i.e. $135 for six sessions.
