Before you judge we don't watch THAT much TV. We unplugged last summer.
We do watch a show through but at an hour a night. My daughters school workload just doesn't allow for more. She's early early teens - not a Polly Anna but we've been really careful about what we've watched over the years. We sit and talk as we watch.
We've been through 4 Star Treks, Gilmore Girls, and The Office. Oh and Lost.
Right now we are watching the English Baking show.
My wife and I thought Northern Exposure would be great but it's not available on any streaming platforms that I know about. From my research it appears to be an issue with the music.
So....any suggestions? We have Netflix, Hulu, amazon Prime thing. Smart but not too. Can have some uh "things" but nothing too spicy (The Office had more than I remembered). Drama comedy - a mixture is the best.

(4,919 posts)One of my all-time favorite shows. I enjoyed it much better re-watching the second time with subtitles. The accents are kind of thick.

Funny my daughter told me how it ends and I laughed. Without being to specific I used to work in the world of the blind.

(34,133 posts)Britbox is cheap, I think 6.99 a month, no ads. Tons of wonderful shows. I can also recommend Acorn TV which also has good British and Canadian shows. It's the only place to watch The Murdoch Mysteries - good mysteries with a bit of fun and women's lib (in Toronto between 1890 and 1910). Acorn TV is 4.99 if I remember correctly.

(29,194 posts)I recommend getting Britbox... and streaming a large number of British and Aussie murder mysteries.

(38,958 posts)Due South, Bergen come to mind. If they are not streaming, check the local library for dvds. Our library just connected with a movie service called Kanopy and it seems pretty good with a wide selection.

(182,718 posts)I've to,d my wife about Kanopy (from DU) but we haven't really done anything about it yet.
Hard to believe but we've really shielded her from politics. She's a good old soul though. She gets it. The West Wing is just so incredibly well written that could be the one.

(182,718 posts)I've run into it because Jeopardy is on the ABC channel here. It's definitely geared to my wife and I - it nails the 80's.

Mom...hate the actress
The girl MADE the show at the beginning
Axl - the older brother who normally would be a pass through became a central part of the show.
Brick could have been a gimmick but they went beyond that.
Good show.
Clash City Rocker
(3,396 posts)But has nothing that would make your family terribly uncomfortable, either. Its very well done. Streaming on Hulu, all five seasons.

(182,718 posts)I've seen it and it's good. ABC has done a great job on sitcoms. Blackish, Goldbergs, of course Modern Family.

(3,396 posts)That college-age kids are actually going through right now. Both of them are sitcoms for grownups, and those are exceedingly rare. The two shows trust in the intelligence of their audience and pull no punches, and that is sadly very rare,

(7,715 posts)One of the finest TV comedies ever made anywhere in the world. It aired on Channel 4 in the UK from 1995-1998, and is about 3 Irish priests banished to a remote island.
The entire 3 seasons are available "for free" on Amazon Prime (and YouTube, unofficially, I think).
A little bit risque, but in an incredibly insane way that will forever make you smile. We let our early teen watch (and for several years now). It's not exactly the Gilmore Girls, for sure.
Brilliant!

(53,410 posts)Great science and human history shows. Looks into future cities and prehistoric human history, outer space and Richard Attenborough level planetary discoveries.
Very smart tv! I think it costs something like $3 a month.
