(46,575 posts)My niece, when she was that age, learned that my sister would drop everything she was doing at the sound of a cough. I was at the house one day when my sister was folding clothes and the baby was in her chair. The baby was watching her intently. That baby gave a fake cough, that sounded more like, "ahem." Her eyes never waivered. And sure enough, it resulted in the Pavlovin response she was looking for. My sister turned around and started fussing over her.

I learned that in Italian, this means "I DO NOT APPROVE!"
We got over it after about a decade. He passed away a few years ago, and I miss him.
This mother, by the way, is an excellent mother, and reminds me of my wife when my son's were babies.
Speaking to babies and teaching them gestures is a wonderful thing to do.
