One frame. The falcon's attack is so fast that you see him in the video for one frame.

(23,307 posts)They eat birds...theyre good at wacking them too. That duck didnt know what hit him. I am on the board of Raptors of the Rockies and got to go on an outing with the director of that organization who duck hunts with a Peregrine falcon. That bird is a machine. It is really something to watch. They do what they do perfectly.

(86,565 posts)I was a park ranger at YNP for a while and I had the benefit of a Peregrine Falcon's nest nearby. A number of times during "Ranger Talks" outside I would have one just soaring overhead. It usually happened during one of my other species' talks, not my bird talk. But I would stop and point it out when it did happen because such an event was so rare. It was kind of rare for me and I was there all the time so for visitors to experience that, with someone describing what and why it was so special was rewarding for many as they thanked me for it after the talks.
I also had a program about birds in the park and Peregrine Falcons were one of the birds I would talk about.
Birds are fascinating and I watch them all the time. There are a few eagles, both Bald and Golden, near me and I love it when I can watch them.

(575 posts)With the freedom of the skies. With no concept of fear or mercy. Nature's majesty in a bird.

(86,565 posts)They can dive at speeds exceeding 200mph! The fastest bird there is in the known world. But they lose a lot in maneuverability at those speeds. A pigeon, one of their favorite foods, can merely flip over in flight and foil a well planned attack in the air.
I love these birds. And it's true, nature isn't always pretty but it is rarely boring.
