I Googled it and found LOTS of people complaining about its vile taste. My doc's office sent me a guide to medication and Clenpiq and suggested adding honey to it if you find the taste difficult to consume.
I am also interested in what they mean when they say I will be "under sedation." I wanna know if it's that "conscious sedation" I had with another procedure...I had something close to hallucinations with that.
I guess they can't warn you about everything...they probably think I'm gonna be a big baby about the colonoscopy...and they are right!

(52,192 posts)i find adding or chasing it with lemon-lime gatorade works best for me.
for all my colonoscopies, i've been in propofol-induced sleep, that seems pretty common.
it is possible to do it while you're still conscious, but doctors don't seem to like that as much. sounds like you don't either.

(63,901 posts)I t sounds like what you've taken for sedation is pretty good.
With my last two colonoscopies. I'll ask this doc if that is what he'll use...
thanks for your info...

(10,952 posts)but it was vile to say the least. It was green in color and reminded a sprite type soda (to this day I hate Sprite). I was supposed to drink two bid jugs of the stuff and couldn't make my way through it.
As to the procedure itself, I never felt a thing or was aware of anything until I woke up. They insisted that I have someone take me home. I have had friends tell me that they had conversations afterwards and ended up not remembering anything they said the first few hours ( ). I was told not to drive that day but I was fine and ran errands later on in the afternoon (bad me ). I think it will depend upon your personal reaction to the sedation.
Have you asked your Doctor if you could just do the Cologuard test. It is a do it your self test at home. They mail you the kit and you just take a stool sample. Yes I know that sounds nasty but it is a whole lot cheaper and easier to deal with then a colonoscopy. My Doctor even used the Cologuard test herself.
Good Luck!

(10,952 posts)I actually have a cologuard test package at home but haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I need to make sure that code it correctly for my insurance to cover the whole cost.

(31,969 posts)2 colonoscopies ... both times I was instructed to drink 2 bottles of magnesium citrate (which any drugstore or dollar store carries for about $1.29:per bottle). It tasted sort of like artificially sweetened, flat, 7Up.
Dont worry about the actual procedure at all. You will be lightly sedated with something in an IV. It will be all over with before you know it. It will be like you dozed off and took a short nap. I usually get very ill from anesthesia, but this goes so fast I have not had one bit of trouble from it.
I am sure youll be just fine!

(7,447 posts)basically tasted like heavy salt water.
I mixed it with countrytime lemonade which only mildly helped...but what did help was a Sprite chaser.
Take a big gulp, hold your breath and then immediately follow with a shot of Sprite...and you almost don't taste anything.
Almost.

(54,770 posts)The taste wasnt that bad, get it cold and drink it down quickly. I ate light for a few days before so it wasnt trying to clean out a bunch of thick junk.
Actually, the forced colon cleanse made me feel lighter and fast.
Do stay close to a bathroom.
Theyll probably give you the same anesthesia Michael Jackson used/abused. Its a nice nap, to be honest. Youll wake up clearheaded and ready for something to eat.
Good luck.

(63,901 posts)I know to eat lightly a few days prior to the procedure. It makes a lot of sense but I note some people think they should pig out before. Big mistake.

(17,615 posts)...dr promised me he would sedate me. NOPE. They give you something that causes twilight sleep...Versed. I kept waiting to fall asleep on the table and the techs were doing stuff and I said 'Hey im not out yet!'. Then I felt something touch my butt then I was back in the recovery room. Versed prohibits laying down of short term memory and is very good. Hubby's a pharmacist and just told m that. He watched his colonoscopy
I was the first one of the day..which hubby said was the spot reserved for highly anxious patients.
Good luck. Im getting that in home kit next time.. where you just send in a sample. I dont care if its a bazillion $ Im not doing THAT again!
