RIP: Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau

In the 60s, my Latin teacher played us Carmina Burana in class. That was a revelation for me. I was already been enthralled by the Beatles, Stones etc etc. But this was just fantastic. And Dietrich was (for me) the absolute standout. I've been in awe of him ever since.

He was just a few days short of his 87th birthday.

RIP, Meister. And thank you.

I saw him in concert many years ago, and I still have a wonderful recording he made of of Schubert's Die Winterreise. Nobody did Schubert better.
