Update on Chunk Chunk, the stray cat who asked for shelter during the polar vortex.

Here's my original post:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/10181180036

The guy who saved her & his SO who cares for the stray cat colony have decided to keep her!

She even has an Instagram account:

Poor Hugo the dog looked horrified, but soon they were napping near one another.

I think that rescuing animals, especially cats and dogs, is an important thing to do.

I'm a cat person and all of my cats have been shelter cats or obtained from a vet or a stray that decided I was her last best hope.

While I sort of understand having a preference for a specific breed of cat or dog, I also know that a local shelter will often have the specific breed you want, or you can contact a rescue group and get your preferred breed that way.

My older brother has worked with Irish Wolfhound rescue for a good twenty years now, and has given home to I don't know how many Wolfhounds over the years.

Right now I'm doing a lot of traveling, and so it would be irresponsible of me to have another living creature in my house. Heck, a friend gave me a poinsettia for Christmas in 2017, and I managed to nurse it along for nearly a year, then went on one too many trips and it died. Sigh. Someday I won't be gallivanting around as I do now, and then I'll take in a bunch of cats and finish out my life as a crazy cat lady. I've already told my son that if I ever have to go into a nursing home, he's to make sure he places me in one with resident cats, because no matter how senile I might get, I will never lose that love of felines.

Did you ever get to read that book I messaged you about last year?

I’m a cat lover too big time, in case you hadn’t guessed from my user name. 😸

My library doesn't have a copy, so I'm not sure when I will get it. But thank you for the reminder.

Sigh. So many books, so little time.

I often say I sincerely hope there is an afterlife, and we get to catch up on our reading there.
