(13,867 posts)In Densmore's book about the band, he said they saw this hotel and sent someone in to politely ask if they could take a picture. Whoever was in charge looked out the window, saw a bunch of hippie freaks milling around outside, and said Hell No.
They waited a few minutes, then ran in and sat in the window and someone only had time to snap one picture before they were told to get out.

All the song titles (except The Horse) are represented in the cover art. I had the poster version as a teenager and looked it it a lot. It's also Phish's best studio album, imho. While looking for an image to pull, I saw a jambase comment about how this year is the 25th anniversary of the album. But I don't feel that old, dammit! I swear it was just the other day ...
I mentioned this in another thread last week: when I was very young, I thought CSNY were friends of my parents because of the Deja Vu album cover. The nubbly faux-leather, the photograph glued on the front, all the guys with dogs and guns and hair and clothes that looked like my Dad.
Edit: what's the best way to post images here? I used Imgur but it's got those funny IMG bracket thingies showing. That doesn't happen on my other forums.

https://findery.com/Chung123/notes/deja-vu-crosby-stills-nash-and-young
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young album cover for Deja Vu (1970) is superimposed by Bob Egan of PopSots on recent location image. The tree is still there. Bob didn't mention where it actually was but left a clue that David Crosby rented a house in 1969-70 in Novato, CA, and had a horse. So I followed the water (which a horse trail would need) to find this spot. Stephen Stills is a Civil War buff and is dressed in a Confederate uniform. David Crosby is dressed as Buffalo Bill. Photographer Thomas O'Neal used a vintage wooden box camera similar to the one used by Civil War photographer Matthew Brady (Abraham Lincoln portrait photog). They had to stay still for 2 minutes. Stephen lived up to his name. This is by Old Ranch Road and Indian Valley Fire Rd, Novato, CA, on the SW corner.

(2,203 posts)"The Blue Cloak" (or "Netherlandish Proverbs" , it's a depiction of aphorisms about generally foolish human behavior, from tossing feathers, to biting iron, to taking a dump out a window. Seriously, you can easily spend an hour finding stuff in this busy painting.
"It's this sort of really detailed, 1500s thing, but actually it's horrible, like, everything that's going on is like a disaster," Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold said. "All the stuff happening in that bucolic scene is weird, people defecating out of boxes and sheep getting cut through the gut."
