I don't believe any single performer in modern times has fully encompassed pure, unadulterated crap and nonsense AND indelible pop culture greatness. He starred in Pulp Fiction, as well as L. Ron Hubbard's "Battleship Earth." He "faced off" with the greatest over-the-top overacting actor of all time, Nicolas Cage, in "Face Off." He portrayed John Gotti in a way that somehow made the Teflon Don come across as Vinnie Barbarino. And that's just for starters. There was the lightning rod of "Saturday Night Fever",,,does he deserve credit, blame, or both, for igniting the much-loved, much-loathed disco era?
Anyway...it's Happy Birthday to John.

(9,265 posts)I believe (unlike other celebrities in the cult) John is at heart a good person. Said hell never get over the death of his son. Hope he can find comfort.

(3,975 posts)he could get fat, because at 40 you are entitled to do that...as a 67 year old who works out 365 days a year for all my adult life, I thought that was pretty nuts...then his wigs and painted on hair..and all the male sex scandals....he sure was a doll on Welcome Back Kotter tho...he most likely is an R, right?

(18,837 posts)I enjoyed the movie...to paraphrase SCTV's immortal "Film Farm Report," I tend to lean toward movies where things blow up real good.
