How soon we forget. A thread here last night asked:

Last edited Tue Feb 26, 2019, 04:33 PM - Edit history (1)

"Which fiction authors were you sorry to hear had died?" I replied: "DU's own Annette Apollo.
Known here as Old Leftie Lawyer and Tangerine LaBamba. December 2009, by her own hand. Miss her."

Crickets.

On Edit: I just now noticed I spelled Appollo with one "p" rather than two because of spell check and the fact that until she was gone, she was always "Leftie" to me. Sorry Annette. Just a dumb "Blondie" mistake. That's what she called me, not a slur on blondes.

Then she disappeared. Turned out she was in a medical facility for about a year with a broken hip. She reappeared one day and we returned to normal until a few months before her death. Then she stopped responding, saying she was "bored" with hearing from me. I think she had decided what she was going to do.

She clearly made an impression. Gone, but not forgotten after all.

And she admired my use of words. I didn't really know her but it seemed we enjoyed each other. I miss her a lot.

I remember her as Tangerine LaBama. Some really interesting discussions, but I can't remember what they were about now.

Annette Appollo was of Italian and Jewis ancestry and grew up in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Law School, she became an attorney and practiced mainly in the Washington, DC area. After retiring from law, she wrote "The Last One Home" in 1999. She was very active on the internet and supported many Democratic organizations and themes. Annette suffered a severe leg injury in 2006 that required an extensive hospital stay. After a long recovery period, she returned to her home in Alexandria, VA but her mobility was permanently impaired. With her health declining, Annette chose to take her own life two days before Christmas in 2009. She is remembered by her friends for her biting wit, great intelligence, and incredible sense of humor. Annette is truly missed.

Not sure how I missed back then, but thanks for sharing the sad news.

She was an amazing contributor here, and I'm sad to learn of this. Now I will have to go try and find one of her books.
