Can we show this family some DU love?

Last edited Tue Feb 26, 2019, 07:52 AM - Edit history (2)

My son works with a man whose wife has ALS. Their daughter has started a go fund me page so they can get her the wheelchair she needs. This family is doing everything they can to make her life comfortable. I don’t even know how they are coping. They could really use help for some home nursing care as insurance covers so little. My son’s friend works full time and sleeps very little as he needs to attend to her needs constantly. Between him, their two daughters and friends they are barely coping. If anyone here can kick in a few bucks it would be great.

ALS is so cruel.

Okay, I cannot get link to post. Damn I miss my laptop! iPad just isn’t as friendly to me.
Will see if hubby can do this for me when he wakes up. If you are on Facebook the organizer is Aliesha Wilbur.

Shouldn’t be too hard for us to do.

I will be donating again on Friday.

This is a shameless kick.

She should have a case manager who will get her the thongs she needs. Sometimes it requires coordination of benefits, but there should be help for her. Sometimes it's a matter of getting help from insurance and assistance from the state. Help is out there.

They do have a case worker. The money available will not get them the chair they need for her.

My father died from ALS. His very expensive wheelchair arrived at my parent’s apartment two days after he died. It would have made his last months more comfortable. We donated it back, but the chairs are customized to fit the patient, so I don’t know if they were able to retrofit it for someone else.

It truly is such a cruel disease. Aliesha’s mom is so tiny, a custom wheelchair is called for. I wish your dad had gotten his in time to make his last days more comfortable.
Thank you for your comments.

At least two very generous DUers have helped and they are now more than halfway to their $6000 goal. I wish wheelchairs could be more easily customized, lots of people could save lots of money I am sure.
