Homemade Boston Baked Beans (which means absolutely no tomato product whatsoever!) are in the oven as we speak. I put them in about 15 minutes ago.
In about 45 minutes my kitchen is going to smell heavenly, which is every bit a part of the experience of baking beans to begin with. Can't wait for that glorious aroma.
Can't wait to eat them for dinner tonight.

(3,276 posts)is on my agenda for later this week. They're flavored with chopped onion, tomato sauce, molasses and yellow mustard. They taste like no other baked beans I've ever had, but Grammy used to make them for all our family potlucks, so there are lots of good memories attached.
Enjoy yours!

(38,553 posts)I'll bet her recipe and mine are pretty similar. I use onions and yellow mustard in my beans as well.

(12,503 posts)or leftover with eggs and linguica for breakfast, or smeared on bread for an open-faced bean sammich. Love them beans still.
But cooking at home wasn't on Mom's list of things to do, so Friend's beans were her friend. You obviously know how to cook and eat well.

(38,553 posts)I don't bake, so when it comes to cakes, biscuits, bread, cookies, pie crust, etc., I tend to rely on packaged products.
I don't make homemade pasta. I tried it a few times and I could never get the texture right.
But there are some things that I just have to have my own way. Beans and spaghetti sauce being at the top of the list. Oh, and applesauce.
I've never found versions of those things pre-made that I care for very much.
Besides, when making some of these things yourself, you get that wonderful smell in the kitchen. I swear that if someone produced a "baked bean" candle, I'd burn it in my home all the time.
When I was a working, single-mom, I used to get all my chores done on Saturdays and then spend my Sundays cooking up homemade stuff that we could either heat up for dinners during the week, or freeze for use at a later date. (This came in handy the time I came down w/ pneumonia. We ate out of the freezer for a week. By the time I felt well enough to go back to cooking, I had so much empty Tupperware that I didn't have room for it in my cabinet. lol)

(31,987 posts)I am making oatmeal raisin cookies as per my hubby's request, so my kitchen smells kind of good, too.

(38,553 posts)I'm no fan of raisins, but you're giving hubby what he asked for, so good on you!
My parents have been married for more than 68 years. I think one of the reasons they lasted that long together is that they said "yes" to each other as often as possible.

I do pretty good with desserts, although cookies are probably the best thing I make.

Don't get me wrong--I like tomatoes. Just not in my baked beans.
