I feel like these were later than usual. I opened only the Savannah Smiles which remind me of the old lemon coolers. They didn't taste as tart but they were still pretty good.
I didn't order any Tagalongs and I can't remember why.

(1,975 posts)with an armload of thin mints! One of his friends at work has a GS daughter and we've never failed, since she started, to get a minimum of 10 boxes for us - I'd better warn him Shelly and Ashley will be bombarding!
I think he got some tagalongs and a couple of others. He really loves the smiles and the shortbreads...
Which usually winds up with Ashley the top seller in her district - everyone at hubby's job goes out of their way and steers vendors, customers (electrical sales) and selling out before the first few days.
GO GIRL SCOUTS!!!

(16,334 posts)I can't tell from the ones I opened. Pretty soon they'll be nuggets!
I used to buy more when I had kids at home. I did get some thin mints for the vegan.

(1,975 posts)We forgot to order one year and passed a booth in a local mall. Spouse bought ALL the thin mints! (we keep them in the freezer).
They're probably having to cut as many corners as the rest of us...

(4,542 posts)My favorites are Samoas (the original ones with toasted coconut, chocolate, and caramel) and Thin Mints, but they were sold out of Samoas. They were sold out of Tagalongs, too (chocolate covered peanut butter cookies). But they'll be selling all month here.
My daughter was a GS and I was a GS leader for 13 years. I wore a lot of other hats for them, too. We sold a TON of cookies and had lots of fun with the money the troop made.

(20,165 posts)I really don't need to be eating cookies and I figure they only make a couple of bucks a box, so I generally give them $2 to $5 when I see them selling.

(36,827 posts)Most of the money goes to the national organization. The troop only gets about 20% of the sale.

(20,165 posts)Even if the local troop doesn't make that much, I think it's a good learning experience for the kids. They learn how to present themselves, how to market and sell their product, how to handle money.
I read about one Girl Scout who got the bright idea to sell outside a weed dispensary. If you're going to get the munchies, you might as well munch for a good cause. Another girl decided to get creative with her marketing of the "Samoas".
Jason didn't mind, but said he wanted some free cookies
