Stand By Me was a great one, too.

It drives me completely bonkers how movie makers almost always mangle his stories.

edit: story, not book

but not one of my favorite stories of his, so I am probably biased.

IIRC, the movie did follow the books very very closely, with no "creative" edits, which is the key to a good King adaptation. After all, why try to fix (or improve) what ain't broken?

to name a few of my all-time faves that I get jealous of people getting to play for the very first time.

If you enjoy the classic single-player gaming experience (as in the games I listed in general), you will definitely enjoy this remake. It should've been called something else, as it has almost nothing in common (other than fighting trippy aliens in general) but ... yeah. It's a good one!

I've played through it twice in entirety, and got well into it a third time ... Steam says I've logged over 150 hours ... well worth what it goes for now (20-30 bucks).

Highly Rec'd

Don't know why that wasn't my first thought.

Same with the first few Indiana Jones movies. I love adventure storytelling interspersed with cheesy humor.

So, toss the Princess Bride in there, too. And the Grail.

But like The Big Lebowski, I like that I’ve seen it so many times I could quote it verbatim start to finish.....I know every punchline and tragic turn, and still laugh and cry.

Recently a local theater held a Princess Bride quote-along.....it was a gas

... so there's no reason for me to forget it to find it enjoyable again.

It's very much like music I enjoy.

For other movies most of the enjoyment is figuring out where the story is going. Once you know that it's not exciting to see them again. You already know how it turns out.

If I like a movie, I'll see it again and again.

A Hard Day's Night - seen it a hundred times.

The Benny Goodman Story - maybe 50 times

The only reason I would want a do over is if the ending was an absurdly wonderful surprise.

I can't think of such a movie.

I no longer watch the Academy Awards because of that movie. I can't recall the year, but The Color Purple was up against Out of Africa, which the latter won best picture. I was totally shocked because Out of Africa was bboorriinnggg and just plain sucked.
