Last night, I listened to a 1963 recording of this wonderful piece performed by von Karajan and the Berlin Symphony. Beautiful and haunting. Excellent technical quality, too.

Recently, someone made an interesting observation about Beethoven's symphonies. He said that the odd-numbered ones were deeper and heavier than the even-numbered works. Did you ever hear that? What do you think? Personally, I like them all but they have such strikingly different moods that I like to be in the right frame of mind for each piece.

Haven't heard or thought of that observation, but guess I'll start listening for it now.
