The Most Magical Dolphin Encounters

I had one myself back in the 1990's. My husband & I would go to Maui for 2 weeks every February to escape, well, Michigan in February. Anyway, we were on a zodiac with about 12 people out in the Au Au Channel between Maui & Lanai looking for Humpback whales when we were suddenly surrounded by a pod of about 24 Pacific White Sided dolphins. They were jumping, spinning, riding the bow wave. One of them swam up to where I was sitting. As I was looking over the edge at him, he turned to his side to look me in the eye. We stayed like that for a good couple of minutes. It was life changing. There was intelligence. There was humor. There was curiosity. There was a connection. Then he flipped his tail and swam away. I will never, ever forget it.

around the boat, circled it at times, for over an hour. They move quickly. Memorable.
