You don't need the "luck of Irish" to go #barefoot into stores and other places of business. You just need to recognize that #barefootislegal & #barefootishuman and to keep your eyes open. 😁👣 #IDidItBarefootChallenge https://t.co/QVXN7zvmtA

Dude took a selfie in a grocery store, if you enlarge the photo, you can see his bare feet.
Like I give a hoot? Okay boy, your feet not mine.

(34,131 posts)I don't want to have to watch every step for hazards to my feet. In addition, I live in Florida where barefoot in the summer on asphalt could cause serious burns.
As a kid it was one of the challenges we had - we'd work on the callouses on our feet so we could walk on the newly laid asphalt in our neighborhood - then we'd walk across a field covered with sandspurs. If you could do both without screaming or injury, you were tough - or at least your feet were!
All that said, I am no longer a kid with tough feet. Mobility is enough of a challenge without worrying about what I might step on and how my reaction to sharp or squishy stuff might cause a fall.

(34,131 posts)But then they paved it and we had the fresh asphalt. Bummer!
Of course, our house was next to a city park with a lake so we could go play in the mud there - if the alligators or water moccasins were not around.

(34,131 posts)For years no one in the neighborhood worried about them even with a dozen or so little kids running around and playing in the water of that small lake. We worried more about the water moccasins - especially after one killed my dog, but the cotton mouths were quick to get out of the way of noisy kids. So were the alligators.
It wasn't until a family moved from up North and their stupid pet was attacked by one of the alligators, after yapping at it for an hour, that the wildlife officers were called to remove the nuisance gator. What no one told that family or the officers was that the gator they caught was the baby, only four feet long. Mama gator, probably eight feet or better was still there at least until I left for college.

(55,004 posts)I go most of the year barefoot. (sandals with socks are my normal winter shoes). people freak out, but how are the bottoms of my feet any worse or dirtier than the bottoms of your shoes? and since mine aren't cooped up in airless plastic/leather enclosures all the time, they don't stink or have fungus either. as for stepping in something gross - meh it happens to everybody and easier to wash feet than expensive shoes. watch where you step.
