We had a 1/2 Siberian, 1/2 Catahoula Leopard and he was super food motivated and got 30 lbs overweight and was having mobility issues because he had a bad back. I started walking him 2x day, cut his food in half and convinced my husband to stop feeding him people food. He lost 30 lbs. and lived an extra 3 years that he wouldn't have had otherwise. It was tough, because he'd beg so much, but worthwhile. I can't even imagine getting 100 lbs off a dog, 30 was tough enough. Applause for this woman's total care & love.

I need to lose 100 pounds and it's only 40% of my body weight. This pup lost almost 60% of his body weight!

do anything for food...have to run them both every day to keep their weight healthy....it doesn’t hurt me either, I guess. I like to eat too.

It isn't the dog's fault. I've heard all the stupid excuses about why a person's dog is so fat and I always want to slap these people. You control the food they get, not them. A dog should never be given "people food". On a Golden you should always be able to see their waistline. Most dogs will beg for something you're eating but it doesn't mean you give in.

Oh, and the so-called "guidelines" on bags of dog food of how much they should get are always way too much.

I don't know how many people have commented, upon finding out how old my dogs are, how young and fit they look. It is largely because we strictly monitor what and how much they eat.

It's so easy to to overfeed your dog and it will take years off its life. Not fair to the dog, it's just the owner's laziness or failure to understand.

He looked like a furry walrus. And there's a special place in Hell for his former owners. Overfeeding a dog until he's obese is abuse in the first place, and then they wanted to put him down for being too fat to walk? I'm so glad some good people took him in and got him healthy again.
