Such a bummer, just bought this car 9 days ago-with $ received after a car accident a couple weeks ago. Seems like if it's not one thing it's another, eh?
I can afford to have the chip fixed, but if there's a good repair kit that works may as well try that. I read that it works best if no dirt or water has gotten into it yet, and unfortunately I already cleaned the windshield with Windex. So already had dirt and now Windex moisture.
Is it almost for certain it will get worse if I don't get it fixed and wait to see, or should I do it asap?
Thank you!

(14,274 posts)Not plugging Walmart. That's just where I found it. Four years ago a semi kicked up a stone and it caused a small crack in my windshield. The next day I got the repair kit and applied according to the instructions. I have put on more than 25,000 miles since then and the crack has not spread.
I would start with a quick fix kit and see if that stems the tide for you.

(3,508 posts)Do you happen to know if it would make it harder for a shop to repair it if the kit job doesn't work/stops working?

(62,444 posts)Wouldnt having another claim just a few weeks after one car was totaled be an issue?

(36,827 posts)Comprehensive claims are no fault and shouldn't affect your rates or insurability.

(62,444 posts)Im kinda odd that way. I was not a good youthful driver, and had issues getting insurance as a young adult. Ive always been mystified by some folks who seem to put in a claim for every little scratch.

(36,827 posts)I've had several similar windshield repairs covered. Hail damage. Damage from theft. Same company insures my home and I just had my roof replaced due to storm damage. Given the premiums I've paid over the years the insurance company is still way ahead. I haven't had a ticket in decades and all my bills are paid on time. It would be kind of dumb for them to drop someone who isn't any more risk than anyone else and they are making money from.

(3,508 posts)I'd been communicating with my insurance though, and don't want to be a nuisance.
I had my insurance (Progressive) do an estimate on the reimbursement, just to see if there was a major difference might have made sense to go with my company.
Turns out the other company (Safeco) made a settlement offer of nearly 2,000 more. Progressive uses the "Mitchell report", a pricing system that not many companies use anymore, the Safeco adjuster told me.
I dropped my comprehensive anyway, since my new car isn't as nice as my late grandfather's Subaru (but counting my blessings and think he was an angel on my shoulder)

(8,231 posts)too many claims.

(36,827 posts)Insurance companies use all sorts of information on whether or not to drop someone. Driving record, payment history, at-fault accidents, etc. Number of comprehensive claims is one of the least considered. Not much anyone can do about them.

I think they come with an alcohol pad to clean the area around the chip.

(8,747 posts)Many of them partner with windshield repair companies. You give them your insurance card, they fix it then and there at the car wash. Zero cost to you. This is what happened to me, and it worked great.
