The one about the fence

So the people next door after living there over 20 years, want to put up a fence.
Along the side of my house, from the front of their garage, all the way down to the utility box.
A 3 foot tall one that serves no useful reason,no one in our plat has a fence along side their front yard
I believe this is called a pain in the ass fence
Any thoughts ??

1. If your city ordinances allow it and it's entirely on their property,

I don't think there's anything you can do. A 3' fence isn't what one would call a spite fence, so maybe it's not personal at all and they just want a clear dividing line between your and their properties. Will it impair or interfere with your use of your own property in some way? If so, maybe you can talk to the neighbors about maybe growing a hedge or other landscaping instead of a fence?

3. Thank you

for your reply, like I said, nobody has a fence, going down to the front yard.
The city states it can be max 3 feet in front,,,by why,
I seems odd after 20 years of them there and old enough to meet Jesus, that they would put up a picket type fence so they won't perhaps get leaves,,,,oh well,,,just sayin'

2. One of our neighbors put up a fence.

Their motive wasn't bad but it ended up being a minor disaster. The motive was presumably to prevent their twin toddlers from wandering into our yard. The problems: 1) our HOA documents clearly state that we can not have fences; 2) they didn't ask us; and 3) the fence was ticky-tacky antifreeze green plastic.

Several neighbors complained to the management company which sent them a letter telling them to remove the fence. When they didn't immediately comply, the management company asked us for pictures, which my wife took and supplied. The neighbors then got fined, took down the fence, and blamed us. The neighbor wife retaliated by sending a letter complaining that we had feces in our yard! The board inspected our yard and found nothing, of course, since that was literally "made up shit."

We really like and a get a kick out of the neighbors' kids, but as you might expect, we're not on talking terms with the "adults."

5. We do not have

a hoa in our plat,,,pity.
To me it just will be odd having the only one in our area with fence going down edge of drive to sidewalk
Will cause,a glitch if we were to put a 6 foot fence along the side, many issues no doubt.

6. I had to put up a picket fence between my yard and the neighbors'

because they kept encroaching across the clearly-established property line and trying to claim some of my property was theirs. They even sprayed Round-Up on my property that killed everything on a strip about 2' wide on my side of the line. Lawyers got involved and they haven't messed with me (yet) this year. Good fences make good neighbors sometimes, or at least they can keep them under control.

4. Maybe they want to plant things along it?

Maybe they want to prevent an outdoor pet from pooping in the neighbors' yard?

Maybe they want it to anchor a new landscaping scheme?

Doesn't sound like a spite fence at 3' tall.

What harm will it do to you?

curiously,
Bright

17. "...just thinkin' it does not serve any reason,or any benefit..."

Ask them.

They've been your neighbors for twenty years.

8. I say let them do it and find out what a PITA it is

The first house I owned came with a nice looking 3' cedar fence in the front yard. It served no purpose whatsoever. After the first year, it needed staining. That was a PITA. After a couple days, though, it looked nice again. Then the little caps on top of the posts started cracking and falling off. I think I bought one replacement then gave up when it didn't fit. Then a couple of posts started rotting at the bottom and needed to be replaced. That was a major PITA.

I guess it kept some dogs out? It sure as hell didn't keep any cats out. Complete disaster as far as I was concerned.

12. I'm with you

If you've been neighbors for 20 years talk to them.

I'm moving into a new neighborhood and my plan is to install a fence (6') on both sides and the rear of the property. Old zillow photos show a 4 ft. one that's been removed in those areas. I just like my privacy. here's hoping my new neighbors aren't the "neighbors from hell".

Oh, and setback 25 feet from the front of the lot, I'm putting a 6 ft group of sections with a gate adjoining the house

No HOA for me.

Maybe your neighbors have always had a dream of having a white picket fence on their slice of America.

13. Well,it is more than that

Good luck with your new move.
Since they have been here over 20 years and old enough to meet Jesus,it seems no useful purpose to do them any good, since leaves and snow will build up along area. and prevent me from putting up a 6 foot along and next to the side

14. we're all

old enough to meet Jesus but we're all young enough to talk to our neighbors.

Personally, I think it's quite neighborly to be neighborly.

Good luck!

16. Not since

they called the city on my leaves left on front lawn, waiting for my yard guy to come by,were running late.
so,they want to put it on our side, down the drive path and not the other side.
Them being 82 does not make any logic . to me

18. what city is this in?

here in sunny st pete it would take 4 days for code enforcement to show up then it would take 14 days to receive the letter from the city then I would have 21 days to respond..

I just don't want to ever move to where you live if they worry that much about leaves on the lawn.

20. come on down

as they used to say in those old ads.

The gulf is just starting it's first red tide bloom, the fine city of New Port Richey just got fined for releasing a couple of million gallons of raw sewerage into Cross Bayou, and it's hotter than hell although it's only May. Traffic sucks but that's only because all the newbies don't know where they're going and even where they're at.

But it's a fine place to put down roots.

Welcome!
