(I lived in NYC at the time). New York City ultimately worked with the government of the State of New York and a plan was arranged so no federal bailout was necessary.

Ford never actually said "drop dead" (see: https://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/28/nyregion/28veto.html )

is jealousy and I think it is that and also the NYC bluster. I remember my first encounter with the NYC subway

My son and his family live on the LES and love it. He is a prosecutor in the office of the Brooklyn DA.
