Where did these horseflies come from!!!

In the insect world, horseflies are the most ornery little shits. They come at you like they're on a vengeance mission. I had two in the last two days target me, biting in succession until they had me in full retreat. Thankfully, I have tough skin and they never drew blood, but I am not going out there again without a plan.

housefly kind of house in my bathroom. It got in sometime yesterday and is entirely too stupid to find his way out. As it is, the bathroom in question is the most interior room of the house, so it hand to wander around a bit to even get there. I'd say even for a fly this one is unusually dumb.

So I'm guessing that the one in your bathroom is male.

heat for two weeks in July back in the day in Quebec. The rest of the summer it was nice. So I don't know how your climate is. I say a week because I we would go up weekends and we only would be cottage bound for one weekend hiding from those murderous chunk biting monsters horse flies. Where are you located?

hanging out back. Had terrible problems with flies in the past, but this really keeps them under control. Used to have a dozen or more flies in the house during summer, sometimes many more. Now it's rare if I have even one buzzing around.

I keep it well away from the back door since it can have a strong odor ( I have a relatively small apartment back yard ) from the bait it uses but I can't do without it in warm weather.

It's true that it the attractant is pungent. Last summer my parents bought one. They needed a new one within two weeks. Then they needed another one a week later. It was absolutely amazing!

I tried capturing flies when I thought I had a Tachinid problem. And, lordy, never thought I had that many flies in my backyard. But I never did see a horsefly in any of the bags. (NOT that I looked too hard. ich!)

And every year around this time, there would be the mayfly "invasions."

They didn't bite, they just mated and then died.
But they swarmed over EVERYTHING.

I was breathing a little too hard while working in the garden last week and almost inhaled one.
