The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIt's a windy day today.
Not a good day to be outside.
I sat on the couch--the sunlight through the window--
the wind blowing the mesquite branches
casting moving shadows on the couch and floor.
The cats knew they couldn't go out.
Too many moving shadows.
Pollux jumped up next to me.
He and I are friends--eye contact and understanding.
A large white guy, long hair, big tail.
He looked at me and we shook hands.
Belle came next. She's almost 20 years old.
She jumped up--stared at Pollux and laid down,
using Pollux as a pillow.
He didn't mind, seeming to know her place as the elder.
The shadows of the mesquite branches moving outside
danced across their bodies.
I watched as they seemed to fade into napping.
I watched as their little lungs filled and exhaled.
Belle won't last much longer.
Pollux's twin brother Castor was eaten long ago by a coyote.

(5,926 posts)very evocative, thanks.
take the freaking irritation and make art. I am sick of the wind, two days of it here - and in late May? WTF? and we had below freezing night before last!
