A Woman Battling Depression Rescued A Stray Kitten. Years Later, He's Known As 'Vampire Cat

BY ASHLEY MAISANO

Nicole Rienzie was depressed after losing her father and a close friend, and wasn’t sure how she’d make it through this terribly dark time in her life.

One day, she was driving with her mother when she spotted a black kitten abandoned on the side of the road. She slammed on her breaks and got out of the car to retrieve the kitten. She didn’t hit him, but he was already in pretty bad shape. He was malnourished, covered in bugs, and his eyes were extremely infected.

Rienzie took the kitten home, washed him and fed him. This is the moment her life changed. Rienzie was in the right place at the right time to save that kitten, who in the end, wound up saving her.

Rienzie initially named him Sergio, but after getting to know him more and seeing what a rambunctious personality he had, she decided to change his name to Monkey (Monk for short).

But Monk was different than other cats. When his adult teeth grew in, his canines were much longer than the average cat. He has these little fangs that make him look like a vampire. To put in into perspective, most cats’ canine teeth measure around one-centimeter-long, while Monk’s are about three quarters of an inch.

When Rienzie first saw them, she worried for his health. But after a trip to the vet, she learned that it was fine and that little Monk was perfectly healthy. His long fangs are rare, but there’s nothing wrong with them.

They also attract a lot of attention whenever Rienzie takes him out in public. People are in awe of them and are left speechless. Some people even believe his pictures online are photoshopped.

Rienzie rescued another black cat, named Bean, a year after adopting Monk. The two of them got along instantly, licking and cleaning each other and cuddling. They love playing together and also love car rides, toys and treats.

Of the four cats I've had in my life, three have happened to be black - so I've learned to love them the best. And that includes my Felix who I found as a kitten in a supermarket parking lot back in 2014 and has grown up to be one beautiful cat, long haired with a big puffy tail. He'll be 5 next month.

Nicole is a hero. She reached out to a sickly kitten and helped him heal and gave him a safe loving home. Her cats Monk and Bean are gorgeous, Monks fangs are neat. Her generosity to him, helped her heal. I love it.

I've seen pictures of him (or a cat that looks just like him) on the internet before and I always wondered if it made it hard for him to eat. Apparently not, he looks happy and healthy!
